Hello and Welcome!
My name is Susie Steves. The Shuswap has been my home for over 30 years.
I am grateful to live, work & play on the unceded lands of the Secwepemc Nation, including the Adams Lake, Neskonlith, & Little Shuswap Lake Band territories. The influence that history has on our lives is undeniably important. I hold compassionate awareness for the varied challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples and stand with all those fighting for equality and justice.
My Education
I am a Registered Social Worker (#10360) with the BC College of Social Workers. I have a Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Thompson Rivers University and a Master Degree in Clinical Social Work from UBC.
My Counselling Experience
I have worked in the Chase & Salmon Arm areas as a Child & Youth Mental Health Counsellor, a Sexual Abuse Intervention Counsellor, a Parent Group Facilitator, a Stopping The Violence Counsellor, and a PEACE Counsellor for children who have experienced violence. In recent years, I have specialized in working with women who have experienced sexualized violence, including historical childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence.
My Counselling Practice
My counselling services are provided at my office above the Royal Bank in Chase. As a counsellor, I use a gentle, person-centred approach to ensure a safe, welcoming space. I provide counselling for trauma, abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions and more. It is my privilege to work with children, youth, adults and families.
I believe we all desire to feel accepted, loved, and to live a meaningful life. When we experience loss, trauma, or stress, it’s normal for things to fall apart. If these challenges are beyond our ability to cope, it’s important to reach out. Many people find it helpful to talk with a safe, confidential person who can listen non-judgmentally. Together we can find ways to rebuild resilience, joy and self-worth.
